National Gallery

natgal

It was raining yesterday lunch and to celebrate the fine weather I thought i’d stay inside and go to the national gallery. Was looking for some inspiration from the old masters. In particular i decided i really like these ones

Gaspard Dughet – top two. ‘Landscape with Elijah and the angel’ / ‘landscape with the union of Dido and Aeneas’.

Francisque Millet - middle left. ‘Mountain landscape with lightning’.

Great colour, compostion and flow to these above pieces. Its beautiful. Should be taught in schools

Meindert Hobbema – bottom left. ‘The avenue of middelharnis’.

Jan van de chapelle - bottom right. ‘A Dutch Yacht firing a Salute as a Barge pulls away, and Many Small Vessels at Anchor’. – i think he could have maybe abbrieviated this.

I just liked these ones, especially the shapes of Jan van de chapelle.

These pics don’t do them justice, if your interested go check it out. Its free, and they’re much bigger in the gallery.

Jeff Soto

soto

This guy is one of my favourite illustrators. He paints on canvas and wood with a style that looks like the disturbed mix of 50’s advertising art and nickelodeon tv. Amazing colours and characters.
